Dallas Chrome Shop?

OK, I know there are a few DFW owners here. Anyone actually shopped chrome places locally? I'm gonna get off my duff and get my top rechromed and burners redone. But there is am 8-10 week turn around in Wichita, and frankly, he didn't seem too interested in the job at all. So I thought I'll search locally, but wondering if anyone has done any ground work??? TIA!

Hey Greg, we did a little research. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK! All we could find were custom shops and those people are on crack! I've been on my duff as well but, I've continued to "look" for a local chrome shop. So far.. nothing. I find it EXTREMELY hard to believe that There aren't any reasonable chrome places in the DFW metroplex. I mean... c'mon!

I have been trying to get my stuff to Gene also. But, I'm not enouraged with your post. Perhaps I need to renew my search for local gratification!

The guys at Robbie's Hobbies in Wichita are thrilled to get the oven restoration work. They do oven rechroming for an oven restoration place just north of here. So they've got lots of experience at it and do a great job.

Everybody in Wichita sounds like that. We've got to sound bored and uninterested or people will get the impression that Wichita is a fun and exciting place to live. Then everyone will move here and we'll all be stuck in traffic. It's like a city ordinance or something. Don't move too fast, and don't sound excited.

Send your stuff to Robbie's Hobbies and you will be thrilled with the results.

All I've done is Google Dallas Chrome Shop, but a couple came up that look promising. I haven't actually gone anywhere in person.

I was expecting a little more when I called and talked to Gene. *shrug* I guess it's like where I come from...in Minnesota, we politely rutn down every offer (i.e. dinner invite)at least twice before we can accept. We don't want to be a burden, ya know.

So I could deal wiht the laid back wichita vibe, but that 8-10 weeks w/o my stove is a bit of a deal breaker. I guess I'll keep looking locally.

Anyone have a loner top I can borrow for 8-10 weeks???

BTW, Lowracer, your top does look awesome, and I'm inclinded to send mine to wichita. I guess I'll have to keep looking for that second Chambers to restore while I use my other one!

I had the same experience with Robbie's Hobbies. They at first didn't seem like they wanted the work, I had to run them down and try a couple times to find the right guy to talk to.

I didn't understand it at the time but now that we've lived here about 2 years I know it's definitely a Wichita or Kansas cultural thing.

I run into the same thing at work. I'm used to high-speed high-energy hungry business like they do in Texas. Just doesn't happen here. No one's in a hurry and nothing is urgent. But if you send it in, they do great work and when it was all over it only cost me $100. And just look at that shine!

Thanks for the encouragement, Lowracer, your stove makes me drool! Could be getting real used to my grill and electic skillet for 8-10 weeks in the near future!

Greg, I'd be more than happy to loan you a top while you have yours rechromed. Heck you live right around the corner... what are neighbors for? Besides, now that I am actually cooking on a Chambers, I really can't imagine doing without.

I live in the DFW area (Richardson) and have just taken my top and racks to Economy Plating in Mesquite. The quote was $245 for 4 racks, the top, and miscellaneous other pieces.
